Shalom Pre/K and Kindergarten families!
During our class we focused on our upcoming holidays, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We began by making cards for our family and friends for the new year. We read “Sammy Spider’s First Rosh Hashanah” by Sylvia A. Rouss, “Sammy Spider’s First Yom Kippur” by Sylvia A. Rouss, and “The Hardest Word” by Jacqueline Jules. We also discussed the main ideas and customs of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. We also watched the Rosh Hashanah special episode from “Shaboom” on Youtube. A discussion followed this where we discussed the meaning of Rosh Hashanah (head of the new year). And the meaning of the shofar (ram’s horn) and its blasts (Tekiah, Shevarim, Teruah, and Tekiah Gedolah). In addition, we discussed what it means when we hear/say “Shanah Tovah” (Have a good new year).
Next class, we will review Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays, learn about Sukkot and have snack/ go in the sukkah.
You can ask your child what each shofar blast sounds like!
Shanah tovah! And to those who participate, have an easy fast! See you on October 20th!
