Although this was the third session of Sunday School this year, it was my first class with the kids! Because of this, we took some time at the beginning of class to get to know each other (or to catch up with each other for those of us who had met last year). What a great group of kids!
We spent the next portion of class discussing and reflecting on the first portion of the torah, Bereshit. Students drew connections between the Cain and Abel story and bullying at school. They came to realize that we are responsible not just for our literal/actual siblings, but for all human beings we live amongst. We talked about being upstanders when we see others being mistreated. Then students reflected on Bereshit by making written activities that relate to it.
In Hebrew, we practiced our Hebrew alphabet -- both being able to identify the letters and also being able to draw them from hearing their names.
