The prek/k class made the most of their last class together of the year! We had a pajama party to simulate staying up all night to learn Torah in celebration of the holiday of Shavuot. We read a story about Shavuot, and then made our own 10 commandments to live by just like the ones Moses got on Mt. Sinai on Shavuot. We also chose where to send the tzedakkah that we've been collecting all year long. Students came up with some amazing ideas. We voted, and the final verdict was PJ Library with an animal shelter coming in a close second. We will be sending the $33.25 we collected to PJ Library, a program that so many of our kids have benefited from. The second half of the morning, we had the pleasure and honor of watching the SSJS 7th graders graduate, and then celebrating a year of fun and learning together. Wishing everyone a wonderful and relaxing summer!! Thanks for such a great year!!!
What a fun day we had in prek/ k today! Together we celebrated the holiday of Purim in some fabulous costumes. We first saw a great performance of the story of Purim by our 4th grade friends. After that, we watched as Flippy the Clown juggled and did some super awesome magic tricks. Some of us even got chosen to be his helpers on stage! We ended the morning with a fabulous carnival! Thanks to all the parents who helped make our morning so much fun!
Hopefully I'll see you all next month... to be determined! 👶🏻
It may be cold and snowy outside in Massachusetts, but in Israel, the weather is beautiful and trees are blooming! Today we celebrated the holiday of Tu B'shevat together. This is the birthday of the trees. It is a time in Israel for celebrating trees, new life, and the environment. We played "trees dance freeze dance" where we pretended to be trees dancing in the wind. We also planted parsley in beautifully decorated pots. With some sunshine, water, and some luck, the parsley will be ready to put on our seder plates for Passover. We learned about some of the great things that trees do for us and made them thank you birthday cards. In pre k/k, we really appreciate that trees provide shade, give us food, help us breathe, give us paper, and more!
We can't wait until next class when we will celebrate Purim together!
Today in PreK/K, we made our own passports and suitcases, filled our suitcases, got our visas, and went on a very special international field trip! You may have seen our El Al flight flying through the halls of SS4JS all the way to Ben Gurion International Airport. When we arrived in Jerusalem with our suitcases and passports, we learned about some special places in Israel. We learned about the sights, sounds, tastes, and smells, that fill the diverse sites of Israel's mountains, deserts, beaches, and cities. We wrote or own prayers to go in the Kotel (The Western Wall), and decorated Israeli flag wind sockets. We even learned some Hebrew! We loved traveling together, and look forward to more adventures together next month!
We had a very exciting day in the prek/k class today! We had our very own "bear Mitzvah"! We learned about the traditions and customs surrounding a bar/ bat mitzvah, and then got to celebrate some very special stuffed animals. We made our animals their very own tallit and kippah/ yarmulke. We then studied Torah together and made our animals a Torah to study and read from. We completed a mitzvah project (making cards for children in the hospital), and then showered our animals with sweetness.
See you in December! Have a great month!
We had a great time celebrating sukkot in prek/ kindergarten! We read a great story about building a sukkah before building our own sukkah out of candy. Thanks to all of the families who contributed ingredients to help make our edible masterpieces possible. After we made our candy sukkot (the Hebrew plural of sukkah), we made our own lulav and etrog (branches and citron) to take with us into the real sukkah outside! We learned to shake the lulav and etrog and sang songs in the beautiful sukkah. Before we went inside, we went on a mini nature walk and found leaves and branches to decorate our own paper sukkot. We can wait to come together again next month to play and learn! Hodesh tov (have a great month)!
We had a great first day today in the prek/ kindergarten class at Sunday School for Jewish Studies! We learned about giving tzedakkah and helping those in need. We also learned about the upcoming holidays of Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. We learned about the tradition of celebrating the world’s birthday and saying sorry for our mistakes in efforts of making the coming year even better than the last. We learned how to greet one another for the Jewish new year (Shanah Tovah), and acted out some ‘sorry scenarios’ to help us be our best selves. We made beautiful apples and honey dipping dishes and plates for eating apples and honey on Rosh HaShanah to help us ring in a sweet new year. Wishing everyone a shanah tovah umetukah, a good and a sweet new year. We will see you next month!
