I grew up in the Midwest and have been in the Boston area for a long time as a researcher and now as a teacher for kids. In terms of Jewish study, I have long been involved in the Boston Jewish community as a teacher and volunteer presenter of text for adults and also as a student, a conference organizer, and currently as an active program team lead for LimmudBoston. I first taught children at Temple Israel in Boston, later was a year-long substitute teacher at Kesher, and most recently I have been teaching at Temple Beth Shalom in Needham. Over the years, each time I return to teaching in a children’s educational program, I find the kids teach me the most Jewishly! In the classroom, I focus on listening to each individual student, to make room for their voice and way of being as they learn and grow , while also creating a positive and respectful classroom dynamic so everyone enjoys being together as we learn. I also bring enthusiasm for Jewish ideas, texts and Hebrew, to share my pleasure and participation in Jewish life, which I hope the students will find also. I’m looking forward to joining the SSJS community and moving the students along not only in increasing their Hebrew skills and content knowledge, but also to connect to Jewish identity and community with pride and joy.
