Hi Wonderful Fourth Grade Parents,
You have raised some wonderful children. We had a terrific class this morning. We started to get to know each other including where we all live and what our favorite things are to do. When asked what our favorite holidays were, most said Hannukah but we had Passover and Shabbat too!!
Thank you for helping your fourth grader find information on Israel or a Jewish topic. We learned about the third place Olympic win by Israeli Kayakers, that the New York Times used language to describe the history of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict that was somewhat biased and not balanced, that Israel has one million fewer people than Massachusetts, that Hebrew is spoken in Israel, that the Dead Sea is the most salty waterway in the world with nothing able to live it it, and many more pieces of information. The students brainstormed what else they knew about Israel and listed at least two areas, countries, or waterways on the border of Israel.
We had a very limited discussion of 9/11 after a student asked why we were in school. We talked about history and learning from past events so we can be a better community that can live in peace.
We briefly reviewed some Hebrew letters so the teachers could get a sense of what the students know. Many students will be starting as beginner learners for Hebrew reading. Students will be grouped in to levels that match their abilities so all should be comfortable and challenged appropriately.
Have a nice week. Mr and Mrs. Y
